Central Scottsdale is generally considered to be the area comprised of Indian Bend to the north, Pima Road to the east, Indian School to the south, and Scottsdale Road to the west. Within Central Scottsdale can be found several smaller subdivisions. Most of the homes built in this area are ranch-style homes, and most were built between the mid-1950s into the early 1980s.
Santa Maria Villa, for example, has moderately priced homes with smaller square footage, built in the late 1970s, early 1980s. This subdivision is centrally located, near Saguaro High School. The nearby Park Scottsdale subdivision was built in two phases in the 1960s and 1970s, the first being near Pima just south of Indian School and the second near McDonald and Granite Reef. These subdivisions include both single family and two-story town homes (built by Hallcraft), with an average square footage of 1,500 square feet.
Chateau de Vie is a subdivision with one to two story townhomes, featuring covered parking and private patios. This subdivision has a community pool and fitness center and boasts a fantastic location adjacent to the Indian Bend Greenbelt Trail and Chaparral Park. Another subdivision within Central Scottsdale is the Scottsdale Estates neighborhood. These subdivisions include apartments, condos but the majority are single family homes built by Hallcraft, averaging between 1,200 and 2,300 square feet.
Golf courses abound in Central Scottsdale, from the links at the Scottsdale-Silverado Golf Club to the courses within McCormick Ranch and Gainey Ranch proper. The Indian School Park and Tennis Center is a public tennis facility with 13 tennis courts. The Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt, rated one of the top “green spaces” in Arizona, winds its way through the heart of Central Scottsdale. The greenbelt has many lakes, parks and paths, and features more than 24 grade-separated crossings, so users can avoid major cross traffic. The Arizona Canal Trail is also a popular amenity for fitness enthusiasts.
The Scottsdale Entertainment District is within Central Scottsdale, and features a wide variety of restaurants, bars and nightclubs. There are several shopping centers in Central Scottsdale such as the Shops at Gainey Village and The Pavilions at Talking Stick. The luxury Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall with hundreds of high-end and mid-level retail shops is located within Central Scottsdale.
The Scottsdale School District serves family-friendly Central Scottsdale, including Pueblo and Navajo Elementary Schools, Mohave and Cocopah Middle Schools, as well as Saguaro and Coronado High Schools. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is less than 9 miles away from Central Scottsdale.
